 DEFENSE POSITIONS

The 11 guys stopping the guys with the ball

Defensive Lineman (DL)

This is the MAIN guy.  The one that gets all the attention and the one that gets ALL the flack.  He is the leader of the team in my opinion. The quarterback calls on the plays in the huddle, yells the signals at the line and snaps the ball.  He passes the ball off to a running back or throws it to a receiver.  The super quick QBs often run themselves!

Running Backs (RB) | Half Backs (HB)

These guys are quick and run like bitches. They line up behind the quarterback and either get handed or tossed the ball.  If the play doesn't have them running with the ball, their job is to block to protect the quarterback from being tackled or make way for another runner.  They can also catch the ball for short passes.

Wide Receivers (WR)

These players are the ones lined up on each side to the far left or right and run down the field eluding defenders to catch the ball.  They are usually fast and have the best hands on the team in order to catch the ball - these guys can be playmakers.  Spectacular catches often get big attention!

Tight End (TE)

Gronk comes to mind.  They are big yet able to run.  They usually catch the ball within 10-15 yards.  Their role is also to act as a blocker for the running backs or a receiver when it's not their turn to catch.

Center (C)

This is one pretty important position. Why?  Because he starts every offensive play by hiking the ball to the quarterback.  As soon as he hikes the ball he has to immediately block for a run play or a pass play.

(2) Tackles (LT, RT)

There are 2 tackles on the offensive line just like the guards.  Both of them are to the left and right of them. Their main job is also to block and make openings for the runner.   These guys are BIG too and QUICK.  Their job is underrated, because if the quarterback is the most important...who do you think protects him???

A TYPICAL LINE UP FOR THE DEFENSE

Line of Scrimmage (This is a line that no one can cross until the ball is snapped)
